7-11 September 2005    Water For Development Worldwide  International Symposium!......

     Objective

Water plays a vital role in economic and social development. The demand for water is increasing rapidly, as a result of population growth, and consequently agricultural water, drinking water and industrial water needs are increasing.

It is essential for countries from all parts of the world to share their knowledge on the development of techniques and technologies used in the water sector, and to promote international co-operation. This has led DSI to organize a Symposium to enable the international water community to benefit from accumulated knowledge and experience.

By bringing together representatives of governments, utilities, private developers, financing agencies, consultants, researchers, contractors and suppliers, we aim to emphasize the importance of water for development worldwide. Thus, the outcome of the Symposium will be helpful for the preparatory works of the IV World Water Forum.

     Languages

The working languages of the Symposium will be English and Turkish.

     Themes

  • Water for Development (hydroelectric energy, drinking and industrial water supply, irrigation and drainage)
  • Management of Water Resources (economical and rational use of water, pricing of water, water management for food and the environment)
  • Financing of Water Projects (potential projects in Turkey, financing models)
  • New Approaches in the Water Sector (new technologies in irrigation systems, organic agricultural applications, irrigation techniques with low water consumption)

     Venue

The Symposium will take place in Istanbul, a city where the continents of Europe and Asia meet. Frequent connections are available from all major cities of the world. It is an ideal meeting point, with many possibilities for sightseeing activities. The Symposium and Exhibition will take place at the Grand Cevahir Hotel, which is one of the best known congress centres in İstanbul.
