GENERAL  INFORMATION 

2nd Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works was established on March 1st, 1954.
- In its responsibility area with administrative center in Izmir, including Manisa and Usak provinces, it is responsible for all kind of services  varying from preliminary studies to execution and operation stages with a view to developing water and land resources.
- Within the Second Regional Directorate limits, there are 3 provinces, 50 counties and 1755 villages. 2nd Regional Directorate encompasses 4 % as the area of  Turkey. ( Izmir province has an area of 12,018 km 2, Manisa 13,223 km 2 and Usak 5,341 km 2 )  In the above mentioned provinces, 7.3 % of  Turkey's total population live. ( Izmir, 3,370,866 persons, Manisa, 1,260,169 persons and Usak 322,313 persons ) The total number of the people is 4,953,348.
- 2nd Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works  is situated in the Aegean region of Turkey. It is bounded on the east by Isparta 18th Regional Directorate, on the north by Eskisehir 3rd Regional Directorate, Balikesir 25th Regional Directorate, on the south by Aydin 21st Regional Directorate and on the west by the Aegean Sea.
-The heights generally increase from west to east in the boundary of the 2nd Regional Directorate. Bozdag and Murat mountains are the most important heights in the region. There are arable lands particularly in the surrounding of Bakırcay, Gediz and Kucukmenderes rivers. These lands are no more than 100 metres of elevation.
- The littoral part of the Second Regional Directorate has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild, fairly wet winters, while Usak and environs enjoy a temperate continental climate. Annual mean precipitation is 626 mm and annual mean temperature is 15,6 oC.
