21 th Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works was established in 1976. Total project value of Regional Directorate  is 3781 million $ and budget of 2004 year is 126 million $.
       
        Our Regional Directorate is responsible for realization of land and water resources development projects in Aydın, Denizli and Muğla provinces of Turkey which cover an area of 32468 km² and has a population of 2344179. Main duties of the Regional Directorate are construction of dams, irrigation facilities and flood control.

        Totally 204475 ha land was opened to irrigation by Regional Directorate until today. Economically irrigable land is 363960 ha which is concerning our region. Construction of irrigation facilities has been going on in 73912 ha of irrigable land, 18169 ha is in investment programme, final design has been completed in 21300 ha, planning stage of 34610 ha has been finished and inception and planning work has been continuing in 33318 ha of land at the moment.

        Irrigation land under operation has transfered to the water user associations in the area.

        The surface water potential of our region is 10300 million cubic meter per year and also ground water potential is 902 million cubic meter per year.

        Our Regional Directorate has 40 dams projects in totally. The purposes of these dams are energy, irrigation, flood control, domestic, industry and drinking water supply. 8 of them are in operation, 9 of them are at construction, final design of 5 have been completed, final design of 1 has been going on, planning of 4 have been completed, planning of 5 have been going on, reconnaissance and master planning of 3 have been completed, the same work of 5 dams projects are still going on. Besides our Regional Directorate has 17 small dams projects which 7 of them are at inception, 1 of them is at planning, 3 of them are at construction and 6 of them are at operation.

        Our region has 47 hydroelectric energy projects which 39 of them are BOT ( build - operate and transfer ). Total power of these projects are 923,58 MW which 598,78 MW of it is BOT, Average annual energy productions are 3648,56 GWh/year which 2543,36 GWh/year of it is BOT. The planning work of 8 BOT projects have been carried out by our Regional Directorate. 8 of 47 hydroelectric energy projects are at operation which 6 of them are BOT, 7 of 47 hydroelectric energy projects are at construction which 4 of them are BOT.

        Our value of domestic, industry and drinking water supply projects are totally 157,46 million cubic meter per year from 9 dams. 2 of them are at operation, 3 of them are at construction and 4 of them are at inception and planning stage. Totally 10,83 million cubic meter of water per year has been supplied from the dams under operation and 90,69 million cubic meter of water per year is going to be supplied from at construction stage dams.

        In 223 flood control structural systems 59993 ha of land has been protecting from flood and total lenght of 2414 km open drainage canal work has been implemented.

        At present 1447 people has been working at 21 th Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works. 240 of them are employee which 175 of them are engineers in different disciplines. 1188 staff  are permanent workers, 19 staff are seasonal workers in april 2004.
